Two decades ago, on December 26, 1996, JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered in the basement of her home in Boulder, Colorado. Since the date of her murder, the crime is still unsolved. According to a detective who worked on the case, this murder case was, “one of the most perplexing and notorious murders of the decade.”1 This Christmas will mark the 21st year since the death of this poor little girl, and she deserves finally to rest in peace.

On the morning of December 26, Patricia Ramsey woke up to find a ransom note asking for $118,000 in ransom for her precious daughter JonBenet. As soon as she found the note, she called the Boulder Colorado Police Department to report JonBenet missing. When the police arrived at the Ramsey home, they conducted a search, and JonBenet’s father John found her deceased body in the basement of the home. When they found her, her skull had been beaten into, she had been strangled with a cord, and she had been sexually assaulted. The official cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation and the death was deemed a homicide.2

At the time of JonBenet’s murder, forensics weren’t as accurate as they are today, so the detectives on the case had a hard time finding a clear suspect.3 In this case, many people were questioned and put on the suspect list, including JonBenet’s own family members. There were several theories for who could have done such a terrible thing, and one of those theories was that Patricia and John Ramsey, JonBenet’s parents, were somehow involved in their own daughter’s murder.

The evidence found in this terrible murder case was early thought to be incriminating evidence against the Ramsey’s. The first piece of incriminating evidence was the ransom note itself, found in the Ramsey household. In the ransom note, the “kidnapper” asked for $118,000 in ransom for JonBenet. This amount is close to the amount of John Ramsey’s Christmas bonus of that year. The second fact about the ransom note is that it was written using pen and paper from inside the house, leading to the conclusion that JonBenet was killed only after the ransom note had been written. All of this must have been done while the rest of the Ramsey family was fast asleep. Many things were found suspicious in the ransom note. Many words were misspelled but they weren’t difficult words to spell out. Also, pieces of a practice note were found, causing some to believe that the note was a spoof. Other than the ransom note, detectives were looking for signs of intrusion into the Ramsey home to narrow down the suspect list. The detectives came to find no signs of forced entry as well as no footsteps found in the snow from outside the house. Another piece of evidence was a paintbrush from Patricia Ramsey’s hobby kit that was used to tighten the cord that JonBenet was strangled with.4

Of course, all this evidence does not seem to be in favor of the Ramsey’s, but they were exonerated from the case in 2008.5 While the investigation went on, many tests were done to find JonBenet’s mysterious killer, one of which was a handwriting analysis of John and Patricia Ramsey. The test findings were that John Ramsey was not a match and Patricia Ramsey was found inconclusive.6 Other than the handwriting analysis, DNA was found on JonBenet’s long john pajamas as well as on her underwear. The entire Ramsey family was tested, and no one was a match to the DNA found.7

It’s a relief to know the Ramsey’s were not found to be their daughter’s killer, but there were still many other suspects on the list. Some of these suspects include Bill McReynolds and John Mark Karr. Both of these men were on the suspect list for the murder of JonBenet Ramsey due to strange connections police investigators found. Although neither of these men were ever indicted for the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, there are several theories that connect them to the case.

Bill McReynolds was one of the prime suspects due to the connection he had with the Ramsey family. For Christmas parties the Ramsey’s would host, he would dress up as Santa Claus for the kids to enjoy. Because he knew the Ramsey’s and had been inside their house, the investigators on the case decided to obtain more information on this man and any ties he could have to the murder case. He was also looked at as a suspect because John Ramsey had made a statement in police interviews that said McReynolds could be the one behind her death. There was not much evidence found against Bill McReynolds to hold him accountable for the death of JonBenet. However, some still theorize he could have been the killer due to two disconcerting facts. The first fact is that he was said to have a close connection with JonBenet. A neighbor who attended the Christmas parties had said, “The children loved him. It was obvious that JonBenet and Burke loved him a lot.” 8 Other than this, McReynold’s wife supposedly wrote a play in 1974 where in one of the scenes a child was murdered and their body was left in the basement. This was an automatic red flag for people interested in the murder of JonBenet because as stated before, JonBenet Ramsey was found deceased in the basement of her own home. Although these two horrific details make it easy to point the finger, McReynolds had a confirmed alibi the night of JonBenet’s death and was released from the suspect list.

Besides Bill McReynolds, another man was deemed suspicious of being JonBent’s killer. John Mark Karr another suspect of the JonBenet murder case, was not considered a suspect right away. He was not an initial suspect because he had no former ties to the Ramsey family and no DNA evidence was found that could incriminate him. In 2006, John Mark Karr made a confession to killing JonBenet Ramsey. Immediately after this confession Karr was put as the number one suspect in the murder case of JonBenet. On video, Karr is seen saying things like, “I love JonBenet. And she died accidentally.” When asked what happened when JonBenet died, he said, “Her death was an accident.” The most appalling statement heard in this video is, when John Mark Karr is asked if he is an innocent man, his answer was immediately, “No.” After the confession, investigators immediately jumped on Karr and performed many tests to confirm that he in fact was the killer of JonBenet. Although America was wanting justice for this poor little girl and they thought justice was finally going to be served, John Mark Karr’s confession was considered false. Investigators tested the DNA found on JonBenet’s underwear and found that it was not a match to Karr’s DNA. Other than the negative DNA test, police investigators looked into Karr’s location the night of JonBenet’s death. It was found that Karr had not even been in the state of Colorado that night and was instead, several states away in Georgia. This news eliminated John Mark Karr from the suspect list in the murder case of JonBenet Ramsey. This was a tragic moment in the case because, although everyone concerned with the case wanted justice, they would not convict a man who was not guilty especially if that certain man wanted to be guilty of this innocent girl’s murder.9

This case is indeed one of the most “perplexing” cases in American history and it’s a shame we still have not found justice in this case twenty years later. However, recent studies of the DNA found in this case have been looked over by Dr. Henry Lee, a DNA expert, and due to recent findings, the DNA found on JonBenet’s underwear is flawed. These recent findings have reopened the suspect list to the suspects who were counted out because of negative DNA tests. This means that suspects like John and Patricia Ramsey, Bill McReynolds, and John Mark Karr could still possibly be JonBenet’s murderer. Who could it be? Hopefully with newer DNA technology and the right evidence, investigators will find the killer of JonBenet and the justice JonBenet Ramsey is entitled to will be served two decades after her death.

  • This article actually made me watch the netflix documentary on it and it only made me question everything more. I think the way you were able to write the article was amazing because you could have included your opinion and somehow didn’t, which i think helps keep the reader questioning things.

  • This article was very well detailed. This story has always been interesting to me and it is very odd how a child could be murdered in her own home and for no one to hear a thing of it happening. I think that there is a good enough of evidence that points to her parents being the ones that murdered her. Although is may be true I don’t think that her parents could have done. This is a very sad story but the writer did such an amazing job incorporating the amount of research in to the article.

  • After reading this article a second time, I can see how it was nominated for an award! It is a very well written piece and it was very informative and intriguing! An article and topic like this is something that resonates with you and something you bring up to people to teach them something new or add to their prior knowledge and help them gain a better understanding of it. I have already brought this up to people and it saddens them and bothers them the same.

  • The author produced a well-written article on behalf of the mysterious murder of JonBenet Ramsey. After reading this article I have gained greater insight on possible suspects, who could have committed this horrific killing. However, it is quite shocking that after 20 years, this case is still unsolved and may continue remaining a mystery. Overall, this was a well written article and the images, exhibited throughout the article were neat.

  • This was a really well put together article and it is a real sad story to read about. I had never heard of this case before and I honestly wish I still hadn’t because it such a sad story. I do not think her parents murdered her even though there was a good amount of evidence pointed towards them. This had great research and I can tell you put a lot of effort in to this article so good job.

  • This was definitely an interesting and well thought out and processed article. It gives step by step detail on the questionable murder of JonBenet. There is so much evidence pointing to different things. The story leads you to believe it is one person, then more evidence is discovered that leads you to believe it was someone else such as the parents, but then you begin to question why they would ever murder their own daughter. Her death is truly saddening and the fact there are still open questions about her murder is even more disheartening.

  • Great article! This is my second time reading this article and i really loved reading it once again. It is always depressing that how cruel and inhuman people can be especially to young children. I hope that they find the murderer one day to solve this case. Moreover, you did an excellent job at explaining the events. To sum it up, it was a good read.

  • Before reading this article, I had never heard of the notorious murder of the young girl, JonBenet Ramsey. It is heartbreaking to learn about the story dealing with the young pageant girl, who was found in the basement of her own home. The main suspects were both her parents and even her older brother. We are now 20 years from when it all happened and the young girl’s case has not been solved.

  • This event is very tragic and it is unsettling to know that someone was actually willing to kill and do all the horrible things that were done to JonBenet. This case has been unsolved for many years and there are many people that are intrigued by this incident. It makes me sad to think that even the parents were suspects in JonBenets murder case. To this day justice has not been made for the death of this little girl.

  • I love the way the story is narrated and listing down the possible guilties of the crime. The fact that her or his murder still cannot be justified after 20 years is unbelievable. People should spread the word so the suspect can be found and pay for his or her consequences of the acts done. Great article and keep it up with the good work!

  • You did a fantastic job of telling this truly haunting story. Many people know the story of Jonbenet’s murder but not many people know that her own family was considered suspect in her murder. Even more, I did not know that there had been a false confession from John Mark Karr. Hopefully one day forensic science will advance enough to close this cold case.

  • I’m high school in a my forensic class, we watch her documentary and its so sad that little girl dies like that. i believed the person who did kill her sexual assaulted her. i don’t think her parents killed her but i do believe they had something to do with it. that family just looks so suspect to me. overall your article was very good.

  • I like how there’s the story of the murder and the case, then the small stories of the suspects and how they might be the guilty parties. I like that quote about how the case is one of the most notorious and perplexing in the decade, because 20 years later, and this is still one of the most known and famous cases.

  • Although this is my second time reading this article, I still think it is a great written article that serves justice to JonBenet’s story. It is important to spread word and make more people aware of her mysterious death. Although it is hard not to point fingers at the parents with the suspension behind their stories, all possibilities need to be considered. It is important to get her story out to hopefully bring her and her family justice.

  • This is a very interesting case, I have heard about JonBenet’s murder but I never knew the exact details to her case prior to reading the article. Indeed I do think that this case is strange due to the fact that JonBenet was killed in her own house without anyone else noticing, or the fact that there was no sign of a forced entry or any footprints outside the house. Was the killer already familiar with JonBenet, or could this have been the work of an expert assassin? A very thought-provoking article; great job!

  • After I read this article I was thinking about the case after and I came back to read the article because it doesn’t make sense to me that John Mark Karr would say he did it even if he knew he didn’t. As I reread it, I’m glad you talked about other suspects in this article rather than more heavily on the family like the documentaries did. This is still a really great and interesting article.

  • I really liked the way this article was written, it was very informative and had me hooked from the very beginning. It was written very well. I had never read or heard about this case before reading this article. It was very surprising to read that her parents were suspects in their daughters murder, but I don’t believe they had anything to do with her death. It’s really sad to know that this case hasn’t been solved and I hope for the sake of JonBenet it gets solved. Again amazing article!

  • I had never heard of this before and it is a really sad story. I always find it tragic when a murder is left unsolved. I find it highly unlikely that her parents killed her though. It is crazy that twenty years has gone by and I think that the more time that goes by the less likely it is going to be solved. I really like the way you put together this article so good job on it.

  • What an amazing and shocking article! I’m amazed I did not heard of the story before! It increible how a child could have been murder in home and that nobody heard nothing. Great details about the story and its sad that after 20 years the case still have no answer. Great article and keep it up with the good work!

  • This case is a true mystery and it’s so sad because she was so young and didn’t deserve to go like she did. I remember when the documentaries came out and everyone started speculating again and it just seemed like everyone had something to hide. I think you article did a really good job talking about that. I also heard that JonBenet had told her parents that Santa Claus was going to visit her again or something like that.

  • I had never heard of this case until now and this article did a great job of providing me with all the interesting and important information necessary to understanding and learning the case. I feel like I know the case pretty well after reading this because of all the detail provided and I find it interesting, yet very upsetting. The amount of evidence there is pointing towards her parents as being the killers gave me chills, but the other suspects in the case seem to make sense as well, so I can see how this case has yet to be solved, but it is still a very sad story to know that justice has yet to be found and may never will be.

  • This was a very interesting article. I find it very weird that this kid was murdered in her own home. Its surprising that no one heard her being killed. The fact that they said the DNA was flawed leaves witnesses and the audience in suspense and confusion. This case should be solved for the justice of the little girl. All in all, this was a very good article.

  • Great article, it was very suspenseful and intriguing as I always wanted to continue reading till the very end. I assumed the conclusion would have just been that the murderer was never found and no one will ever know, but it took a huge turn around when it was stated that the DNA was flawed. Leaving the reader open to think what they want with the information that it could have been any of the past suspects is a great strategy and makes for a wonderful story ending but a tragic loss as this little girls death was never giving any sort of justice.

  • Thank you for this article! I didn’t know anything about JonBenet’s unsolved murder case before reading this article.
I find it crazy that even twenty years later, the no one has found who the killer was with all of the technologies we have. It is also really sad that people would murder such a young girl.
The author did a great job though; I really enjoyed reading this article!

  • It is extremely sad that someone like JonBenet was killed. It is even sadder that to this day the police and investigators still do not know who the murderer is. This is something that has been in the news and is talked about by a lot of people because it is such a terrible tragedy. To know that someone was actually capable of doing something like this to anyone let alone a child. What is even worse is that her own parents are suspects to the murder of their own daughter.

  • I’m not sure if anyone can still be found guilty due to the time that has elapsed since the murder but the case still deserves some closure. In my opinion it had to be someone from her family, not a stranger because of all the suspicious evidence. Even learning about this case in my forensic science class in highschool this is one of the most interesting cases

  • This article’s structure and pacing are something to be admired. Not only was the story of this poor child’s murder described, but so were the stories of four other suspects. None of the transitions between the information regarding each suspect feel awkward or rushed. The article as a whole is very informative, with each transition serving to add intrigue to this unfortunate mystery.

  • This article definitely shook me. I am amazed at how modern police work was able to get away with being so careless!? I don’t understand how things got so complicated and then this case was never even solved. There was no justice and nothing but questions left in the wake of this murder mystery. How an innocent little girl was murdered and no one knows why or how exactly it happened. I think the police who worked on this case or at the crime scene should have all been fired.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I had known about this story beforehand, and had done quite a bit of research on it and so I was immediately intrigued when I saw the title, that was why I clicked on it here, and I was pleasantly surprised with the writing and details. The story was well written and thought out and stayed on topic the entire time very good job!

  • simply wow, this article has all the missing links and elements to a crime novel. I was left in awe of this story and the eerie feeling of its open-ended cold case nature. the very idea of this tragedy is unsettling within itself. it is truly unfortunate that around two decades later we have still failed to discover the monsters that committed this horrible act.

  • This article was very well written. Before reading this article i actually did not know anything about JonBenet. I had seen here picture before but i did not know the story behind it. It is amazing that they were never able to find the killers and that also the parents of the child were never woken up in the night while their daughter was being murdered in the very same house. I hope that with the new technology today and with the evidence that they still have that they are able to finally close the case and get justice for JonBenet.

  • It is incredible that it has been over 20 years and there are still no answers for this horrendous crime. What a great article, what a great structure, this has to be one of the greatest articles I’ve read on this page. You are able to describe the event in a way that it is easy to comprehend, even to those who didn’t have prior knowledge of it. This is indeed a fishy story, I have a sense that it might have been JonBenet’s parents…but I guess we’ll never know. Great job!

  • First, great article. I really enjoyed how everything was presented. I remember my mom telling me about this story and I was completely shocked. It horrifies me to think that she died in such a monstrous way. She was a little girl with a bright future and it was taken away from which is not right. I found it interesting to read more about the two possible suspects. It is sad that the case is not solved. I hope that one day we will be able to find the murder and give JonBenet the justice that she deserves.

  • Your article quickly pulled me in and I read it all in one sitting. It was very interesting, and who doesn’t like a murder mystery… however, real ones are sad and tragic. It’s sad to hear that her murder is still unsolved but I hope that with technology of today that can change. Of course, reading this, I’m just a spectator, but I feel strongly that her parents have something to do with it.

  • The article from the first paragraph jumped straight into the issue to be discussed reading Jon Benet’s murder. The article was fluently written, going in sequential order listing how the investigation went through each suspect. I appreciated that the article described in depth each suspect and gave ample information to describe how this suspect was taken out of the picture.

  • It is saddening how someone could just murder a young child like JonBenet. However, what is even more saddening is the fact that after twenty years, the case is still unsolved. Hopefully with the new technology that we have today, we will be able to come up with some type of answer. This article was very good at stating all of the information, before reading this I only knew a little bit about the case but after reading this I learned so much more.

  • This is such a well written article and the Jon Benet’s unsolved murder case truly is heartbreaking. She was a six-year-old pageant queen from Boulder, Colorado. In the year 1996, she was found dead in the basement of her home. There were many suspects in her case but most of the evidence was pointing to her parents and her older brother. I still see it so mysteries that a man named John Karr confessed to killing the young girl but there was no evidence pointing to him. In my opinion, the young girls family should know who was responsible for their little girls death.

  • I think it is sad that with as much technology as we have now we have not been able to find this little girl’s killer. Part of me think its the parents but I do not understand their motive. If they did it did they leave the ransom note to make it look like it was not them? Why was she in the basement? Why didn’t the person who killed her take her away from the house if it wasn’t her parents? Wouldn’t they have heard the girl screaming as she was raped?

  • it is really disturbing what people are capable of doing to other human beings let a lone a little innocent child. you did great job at putting the details and information about thee case into the article. it left me wanting to read more and I definitely want to read up more on this case. although I know that technology wasn’t as advanced back then but I believe that her parents have something to do with it.

  • There’s a thing such as crazy and then there is psychopathic. Humans are such weird animals, although if thought about other animals are the same, as in other animals also kill their own species and other species too. It’s awful how the little girl got murdered, and even worst is that she can’t rest in peace because her case is still unsolved. Even at that, today’s technology should have been able to detect all the evidence needed to solve the case. We are a modernised society now and DNA testing should be a lot easier than before. All in all this was a great article, thanks for writing it.

  • As sad as this article is, I was very impressed with the structure of everything. I can’t believe how cruel people can be and kill an innocent young girl. Cherice Leach absolutely did so much research into this topic by the way she mentioned dates, suspects, DNA tests and even providing pictures. It’s a shame that justice has not been served, but hopefully after 20 years later, we will find the horrible person who took an innocent life. This is an amazingly written article.

  • I recently watch a video on YouTube where Buzzfeed Unsolved made an episode and told the story on Jon Benets murder as well. It’s astonishing to me how a little girl could so plainly be killed in her own home, and still not have her murderer caught. There is many things that are fishy about the case and leave an unsettling feeling about it. If John Mark Karr did not commit the murder, why would he make a false confession? Did he want to take credit for the murder? If so, what a sick thought.

  • Wow! I really liked your article. The article was well structured. Honestly, I had never heard about the content before. You efficiently and effectively did a great job on providing and explaining all the details concerning the case. Basically, I found the story really depressing. I hope that they find the murderer one day to solve this case. To sum it up, it was a good read.

  • This was a very interesting read. It was well organized and well written. I remember watching Dr. Phil do a three day interview with JonBenet Ramsey’s brother and being so intrigued with the story. It is hard to believe how many errors were made by the police while investigating. I still can’t believe that the killer was never caught. Overall great article.

  • This case is indeed very perplexing. Beginning with the ransom note that was written within the house while other people where inside it. It is hard to believe no one would have noticed or that no sustainable evidence was left behind by the perpetrator. This was a very detailed article when it came to the suspects and their ties to the cases.

  • How can there be people out there that does such harm to people, and to a child! The technology that we possess now did not exist back then, so the investigators could not find the culprit but hopefully, with all the technology and advancements in science that we now possess, investigators can finally find the light at the end of this mysterious tunnel. Hopefully, justice will finally be served for JonBenet in the coming years.

  • How unfortunate that two decades after, this terrible murder case has not been solved. Because at the time of this murder DNA testings were not as developed and complex as they are today, it wasn’t determined who was the criminal who murdered this child. I hope that soon a the person who committed this crime is found and justice is served for this poor girl. Excellent article.

  • Truly heartbreaking how inhuman people can be especially to young children so pure and innocent. Excellent article Cherice Leach!

  • Why is everyone so obsessed with this case? I understand that a child died and that in itself is awful. However, how did the case become so public? It is sad that they have not found the murder. The evidence they found is confusing. I just don’t know why we are so focused on this case when there are so many other unsolved cases.

  • You did a fantastic job with this. You fit a large amount information into your article and retell it in a very compelling way. Nobody wants to think that a parent would be capable of harming and possibly killing their own child. Yet, we have seen many cases of exactly that in the years since JonBenet’s death. The evidence that you use in your article makes me consider the possibility of the mother being involved but not directly. Maybe one day we will finally have an answer as to what happened to JonBenet.

  • This story is extremely sad tragic, and it is a shame that no one been charged with the murder of this young girl. This article was very well written though, and it was fascinating. It’s bizarre that a man would just admit to killing a girl, and the cops not being able to find any evidence that he had done it. Even if he didn’t, it leaves me to wonder why confess?

  • I did not realize that DNA evidence twenty years ago was so archaic, from the initial introduction you would think there would be enough evidence in the crime scene to convict a killer by now. Before today I had never heard of this case before but this article made me realize how uninformed I was on this case that left a major imprint on our country. This article was written extremely well and had me along for every line. The last paragraph leaves the reader with chills and hope that the case will still be solved, overall it’s a very well written article.

  • What is it with sick people hurting children like this? An innocent girl killed in such a brutal way and left to rot in her own home. It pains me to see no one brought to justice for this horrendous crime. I hope whoever did this is soon brought to justice so that this little girl can finally be at peace. The author did a good job at giving good details about the case and how each suspect was ruled out. They left nothing out and I was interested in the whole article.

  • This article is so wild, I don’t understand how investigators can not figure things out like this. You would think of how far we have come and try and grasp the knowledge gained of their specific career title and wonder how complex these criminal minds are enough to get away with murder. It is crazy to think that we STILL do no wield the technology to point a for sure finger at a single suspect.

  • This article is very interesting, it is saddening what has happened to JonBenet Ramsey. To think that the murder has yet to be solved. The first thing of course is to suspect the parents since there are many holes in their story. However since there is not enough evidence to have a primary suspect we many never know what really happened that night.

  • Such a good article with built up suspense from the beginning, The murder case of this young little girl is is breathtaking, all the suspects involved and no one to be blamed at the end, makes you realize how much technology has advanced. The amount of detail you gave was great, I found my self trying to piece information together as I read along, thinking of a suspect my self. I hope this case is not forgotten and that the murderer faces justice.

  • Great article, I was also thinking of writing about this case. I have watched many documentaries on this case, and this story truly haunts me. I do not understand how someone could do this to a little girl, it is horrifying. Not only that, it has to have been a family member. The parents barely showed any emotion after their loss which is suspicious, and I do believe the brother may have committed the crime. I really hope that this case will get solved soon in order to give JonBenet the justice she deserves.

  • You did this story justice but if only she could get justice as well. It’s always alarming that if she was killed in her house, how could no one possibly hear anything strange going on. Although I wouldn’t suspect her parents to be the killers but you never know what people are capable of. It’s truly sad that children die for no reason and its completely crazy that people walk away free after doing something as awful as this. Your article was very informative and I enjoyed reading more about the case, I just hope with our new technology that they can finally find her killer and she can rest in peace.

  • It is so interesting to me that the world is still fixated on this excruciating tragedy. The murder of Jon Benet Ramsey although still inconclusive as to who was responsible, changed the shift of the world and of the media, then and now. This murder case keeps on being mentioned and brought up to date every other year. I have watched many documentaries, and all of them argue different theories and allege different twists and turn of events to be what actually happened. However we forget that the ultimate reality of this case was that a little girl was not only abused , but killed; A true atrocity, a great written article.

  • Reading this article refreshed my memory of the JonBenet Ramsey case, which i learned about in my high school forensics class. I recall reading that because of the first responders uncoordinated actions, family got inside the crime scene and disturbed most of the evidence. This could have possibly been the reason why this murder case remains unsolved. Overall, i enjoyed reading this article and remembering the things I learned about back in my forensics class.

  • Very interesting article! It’s crazy how till today, they have still not solved the case. I also think it’s crazy that someone would admit to killing and raping a young girl even though they really did not. It’s also really weird how they found absolutely no trace of the person who committed the crime, not even footsteps in the snow.

  • I knew nothing about this case before reading this article. This just goes to show we have a long way to go in terms of criminal investigation. Even today many murders are left unsolved due to lack of advanced DNA tests. The fact that stories like this are never resolved is chilling to say the least because the people that committed this crime still roam free. On a different note this was a very well written article.

  • Cherice Leach delivers a perfectly crafted article with a great narrative arc. She perfectly explains the tragic story of JonBenet. She develops a rising, climax, and falling action. Providing the readers with a protagonist and antagonist capturing the reader’s attention. When I was so intrigued by the mystery that surrounds this little girl. Just when I thought they had the killer the story takes a twist. Great article!

  • I think this killing was sinister and one of the greatest unsolved mysteries to happen in the 21st century. It is weird to prove how so many events on that one fateful night occurred while everyone was inside the house. I also find all the suspects weird and very uncomfortable. Especially John Mark Karr who to me is the killer. Even his picture alone creeps me out. I think that this article overall was very good and well written! Great Job!

  • I remember watching a documentary about this case and trying to solve the mystery as to who the killer is. It’s really heart breaking to hear of these cases especially since she was such a young little girl. The parents did seem very suspicious, but we will never know who truly committed this awful deed. Why would John Karr make such a false confession when it just stirs up emotions and hopeful relief to the situation when he didn’t even do it. Overall, this is a well written article.

  • Its great that we have newer technology in the research of DNA, they should re-open the investigation and re-do the DNA tests on all of the Ramsey family and the two suspects. I have a strong feeling that her parents were involved in the murder. Joh Mark Karr should’ve been submitted to a psychologist especially if he was pleading guilty to a murder he didn’t do.

  • I’d never heard of this murder case, but the way you wrote about it made it seem like a news article. When reading this article, it made me feel like I was in on the investigation, somehow a part of it. The “twist” with the fake confessor was interesting because, asking rhetorically: Why would someone confess to something they didn’t do? Seems to me it’s some sort of obsession with the mystery of this murder. Nice article.

  • Very interesting and well written article. There was a lot of information provided that I never knew about. I remember watching a documentary about this before so I knew a little of what it was about. It’s truly tragic how the murderer hasn’t been found and justice hasn’t been served for JonBenet Ramsey. Hopefully now that the case has been reopened they will find the murderer and give her the justice she deserves.

  • This article was very interesting and very gruesome as well. It’s impossible to believe that people are able to do such terrible things to a little girl. It’s surprising that no one was found guilty of the horrible murder.
This case is very popular among those who enjoy murder mysteries but I had never known many of the smaller details of the crime. When first reading about the incident, I figured it would have been solved considering lots of the clues led to her parents but later finding out that it was almost impossible due to the DNA results. The “santa” definitely was very suspicious but my conclusion is that the suspect had to be someone with no direct relationship to the family but only to JonBenet. What leads me to believe this is that children keep secrets and create relationships that parents may be blind to for the most part.

  • It’s quite odd that someone falsely confessed to such a heinous crime. Why would he want to be the man guilty of a crime he did not commit? It doesn’t make too much sense, but a psych evaluation would provide insight on a man like that. I think you could’ve written a much longer article with some more details on the matter, but nonetheless the gist is great and still well written. I had never heard of the case until now.

  • I’ve read a lot of murder cases about children because of my law classes but I’ve never heard about this one. Its a shame that it has been almost 21 years since she died and they don’t have a clear suspect about who killed her. I know it must be hard for the family going through something like this. But I’m glad that their still looking into the case as we advance with technology.

  • The first time I heard this story I felt an unexplainable sadness commoner me. How awful is it that this little girl was brutally murdered at the young age of six and still her killer has not been found. While I had known her murder was a mystery I did not know all the people who were considered suspects, including her own parents.

  • An extremely well written and put together article. Its sad that how even after 21 years the murder is still a unsolved case. That someone had gotten away with killing a little girl and never faced the consequences. Its terrible how this happens so much in the world and we only know a few details. Nobody thinks this could possibly happen to them, but in reality it can happen to anyone, and anyone can snap and act on impulse.

  • This article was a great read and was very insightful when it came down to the facts of JonBenet’s death and her mysterious murderer. I have previously been familiar with the infamous case of JonBenet Ramsey, her unfortunate and tragic murder and her alleged killer(s). To this day, I still think it’s extremely unfortunate how all of this occurred and especially how forensic science was not able to provide the answers needed from collected evidence, leaving her parents and those interested in the case, dumbfounded and frustrated. Hopefully, updated technology in forensic science will help pin down JonBenet’s killer(s) and grant her and her loved ones some justice and peace.

  • This case still blows my mind. I can remember my mom having the news on at night in the early 2000’s when I was probably four or five and this case was the most popular news story. Even when I was so young I was shocked and scared that this beautiful little girl was the victim of such a disgusting crime. I find it so sad that the parents were being pointed at as the murderers, and they were not exonerated from the case until after JonBenet’s mother passed away. I feel so much pain for Patsy Ramsey because she passed away knowing that people all around the world believed she killed her own daughter. The entire case is odd, and extremely eerie. A few month ago I saw an interview with JonBenet’s older brother and even his reaction and manner was odd. I hope that one day the true killer will be found.

  • Wow, This article is very interesting. Even though it is really long, I would recommend it because it is worth the read. Thank you for the good information Ms. Leach.

  • It is truly tragic how even after twenty years, they have not found JonBenet’s killer. I can not even imagine how difficult it must be as a parent, to not have any knowledge or justice for your child’s murder. What must be extremely disturbing as well is knowing that your daughter was tortured and killed in your own home, and you could’ve stopped it, had you heard. After reading about the different theories they have, I can’t help but think that the own Ramsey family had something to do with the murder of their daughter.

  • This article reminded me of a criminal minds episode or show like that. It is so sad that due to lack of equipment and search methods they were unable to catch JonBenet’s killer. I find it interesting how there were drafts of the ransom note found. I don’t see why there would need to be draft letters written if the killer was sure he wouldn’t be found due to connection with he child. This leads me to believe it was someone close to JonBenet and possibly her parents. With no forced entry, the similar ransom amount to a bonus, and no signs of other people in the house it just doesn’t seem right. I hope they find the killer one day to solve this murder.

  • This is such a horrific case, especially since JonBenet was so young and innocent. Its made worse that they still haven’t and probably won’t ever find the guilty party. The little girl must have been so frightened when she was abducted and faced with the brutal realisation of certain death. I don’t want to comment on the parents involvement of the case as I don’t know enough facts regarding the subject to make a proper accusation. A well written piece.

  • This was such a good read. It was so interesting, and sad. It’s sad to think cases like this go unsolved everyday and everywhere around the world. I hope they find the killer and find justice and peace for JonBenet. Although her parents were originally ruled out as suspects, there is a possibility now due to the recent findings, I really hope it is a step closer to solving the murder, and putting the person who committed these crimes where they belong.

  • This article is very well written. I don’t think I have heard of this case but it is a very interesting one. I feel like I learned so much from just reading this article. Such a great job on providing and explaining all the details concerning the case. I found this article very eye opening and upsetting. The fact that it has been 20 years and there still is no answer to the case and it is unresolved. It is a sad story, and I think that is should be resolved just so that there is closure. Crazy how there is also two other suspects to the case.

  • I recall watching a video on unsolved murders that had JonBenet’s case in it, and I couldn’t believe what happened to that poor little girl. For your article, it gave an in-depth look into the matter which made it very interesting to read. The way you worded and put together all the evidence and theories made it very entertaining to read. Overall, good work on your article and keep up the great work.

  • This is a very well written article. I had honestly thought that I had never even heard of JonBenet Ramsey, or the case in general but as I continued to read I realized I had. You did an excellent job at explaining the details. I found it very eye opening that even after twenty years there was still no answer, and also how this child was murdered yet not a single thing was heard.

  • The article is extremely well written. It explains all the case details very well and in an organized manner. I am familiar with the case but yet I feel like I just learned something I did not know until now. Well done Cherice.

  • This is a very well written article, this story has always been very interesting to me, it is a really strange that a child could be murdered in her own home, and no one would hear a thing. I think that there has always been a substantial amount of evidence pointing to her parents. However at the end of the day I do not think that her parents could have killed her. I was unaware that there had been two other suspects in this case. This is a really sad story, I think that everyone desperately wants for this murder to be solved so JonBenet can finally rest in peace.
